| The
EWS has a range of client groups that include
parents and pupils. Together with other
board services a method of consultation
with these groups will be developed. EWS
support to schools will be monitored through:
SEWO supervision of EWOs.
SEWO meetings will undertake the planning
and monitoring of service delivery.
SEWO liaison with schools. SEWOs will meet
with secondary schools at least once a year
and will contact grammar and primary schools
once a year to discuss service provision.
Schools will be provided with a written
report of the EWS work undertaken in the
school each year.
The Education Committee will receive a report
once a year about the work of the EWS and
the needs of the service.
It
is difficult to measure the effectiveness
of the EWS in quantitative terms alone since
the EWS cannot assume sole responsibility
for changes in attendance percentages in
schools. The Boards TSN Objectives
include reducing by 30% the number of pupils
identified as persistent non-attenders by
2003 compared to 1998/9.
The EWS will measure the number of pupils
referred for persistent non-attendance and
the number of cases closed once attendance
has been improved to above 85%.
The number of cases closed when no further
service can be offered.
The number of pupils referred for having
attendance patterns that are causing concern
and the closure rate of these cases.
The EWS will measure the effect of EWS intervention
in percentage terms on the cases referred
to the service by schools.
