Certain pupils with statements of special educational needs will have special transport needs. In these circumstances officers of the Board, drawing upon medical and other advice as required, will assess the pupil’s special transport needs and make appropriate arrangements in accordance with this policy. |
A special transport need may arise where the pupil:
-
is unable to walk
- lives under the qualifying distance from the designated school, but is unable to walk safely to that school, accompanied by a parent, due to an exceptional road safety hazard
- is unable to use Board or public transport without assistance
- has a medical condition, or severe learning difficulty as assessed by an educational psychologist, which indicates that special transport arrangements must be made.
