To access the SpLD service, all pupils are required to be referred by the school to the Educational Psychology Service at Stage 3 of the “Code of Practice on the Identification and Assessment of Special Educational Needs.”
The Peripatetic Support staff specialise in the development of literacy skills of children and young people. They are based at five Reading Centres which are located in Armagh , Banbridge, Craigavon, Dungannon and Newry and they are allocated a number of pupils who are taught in groups (a maximum of 4 pupils) for two sessions, lasting one hour each, on a weekly basis. All teachers will liaise closely with the pupil’s class teacher throughout the period of intervention.
