The Service is accessed through referral from members of the Board’s Educational Psychology Service who will have been informed by the Designated Medical Officers of the Health and Social Services Trust about the child’s special educational needs.
The Peripatetic Teacher makes home visits at regular agreed times for around one to two hours on each occasion and works in partnership with the child’s parent(s) to build on abilities and teach new skills.
The Peripatetic Teacher liaises with other Board staff who deliver services to parents and schools as well as with professionals in other agencies and provides Advice as part of the statutory assessment process.
