Peripatetic Service for children and pupils who have Down Syndrome

The Service provides advice, guidance and support to parents and school staff as well as working directly with pupils who have Down Syndrome.
The Service is accessed through referral from Designated Medical Officers of the Health and Social Services Trusts or members of the Board’s Educational Psychology Service.

Peripatetic Service for children and pupils who have Down Syndrome

The Peripatetic Teacher makes home visits in respect of pre-school children, where appropriate, and makes regular visits to schools to advise on approaches and strategies for school age children.

The Peripatetic Teacher liaises with other Board staff who deliver services to parents and schools as well as with professionals in other agencies and provides Advice as part of the statutory assessment process.
