Looked After Children

The aim of this handbook is to provide information and guidance to all those who contribute to the positive educational outcomes of Looked After Children (LAC).

This includes foster carers, social workers, teachers, Southern Education and Library Board (SELB) and Southern Health and Social Care Trust (SHSCT) staff as well as partners in a range of other statutory, voluntary and community groups.

This revised handbook has been developed by the Education Focus Group, a partnership between the Southern Education and Library Board, Health and Social Care Board (HSCB), Southern Health and Social Care Trust, LACE Project, Council for Catholic Maintained Schools (CCMS) and Armagh and Dungannon Adolescent Partnership (ADAP).

The views of local Looked After Children are included; their views play an important role in influencing the support provided to improve educational outcomes.

A guide ‘You and Your Education’ created by Looked After Children and Young People within the SHSCT/SELB area has been included for your information (Appendix 1).
