The Southern Education Procurement Unit strives to provide an efficient and effective procurement service to schools and other establishments within the Board’s remit.

Customer Services

Chief amongst the Unit’s array of services is the provision of sourcing information compiled as a result of public tendering exercises. Schools and other authorised users have access to the Procurement Unit’s electronic catalogue by clicking on the following link


This link provides access to information on a large range of goods and services of a high quality but at competitive prices. This information is updated regularly when contract information changes. Other customers receive contract information relevant to their needs. The Unit also provides other services which include an advisory and support service on all aspects of procurement, an ordering service and a collection/disposal service for obsolete or unwanted furniture and equipment. The Procurement Unit administers a wide variety of contracts most of which are call-offs on a period basis. There are also joint contracts which cover all five of the Northern Ireland Education and Library Boards where one of the boards administers the joint contract on behalf of all five boards. The Southern Education and Library Board (the ‘Board’) was established as part of Local Government reorganisation in 1973 and is the largest of the five area Boards. The Board's principle functions are the provision of education and youth services to the District Council areas of Armagh, Banbridge, Cookstown, Craigavon, Dungannon & South Tyrone and Newry & Mourne. It spans 1,450 square miles with a total population of approximately 390,300 including 75,767 pupils.
