Education Library Service

The Education Library Service provides a comprehensive service to Nursery, Primary, Post Primary and Special Schools in the SELB area. The Audio-Visual Recording Service supplies copies of educational broadcasts from T.V and Radio to schools and colleges across Northern Ireland.

ELS staff are available to advise or help you with your school library needs. We are based in Library HQ, 1 Markethill Road, Armagh, one mile from the centre of Armagh City.

We can help you to develop an effective school library:

  • stocked with current materials to support the curriculum and pupils’ interests

  • organised to encourage reading and independent learning

  • providing a welcoming and stimulating environment

The Southern Education and Library Board (the ‘Board’) was established as part of Local Government reorganisation in 1973 and is the largest of the five area Boards. The Board's principle functions are the provision of education and youth services to the District Council areas of Armagh, Banbridge, Cookstown, Craigavon, Dungannon & South Tyrone and Newry & Mourne. It spans 1,450 square miles with a total population of approximately 390,300 including 75,767 pupils.
