Child Protection Support Service

The Child Protection Support Service for Schools was established as a regional service in April 2006.

 

The Service

  • Provides advice, guidance and support to Designated and Deputy Designated Teachers in the handling of safeguarding issues
  • Operates a daily helpline to schools
  • Provides safeguarding training to various groups within education
  • Provides training to Designated and Deputy Designated teachers

 

 CPSSS recommends that every school has  a Safeguarding Team comprising:

  • Principal (Chair)
  • Designated and Deputy Designated Teachers for Child Protection
  • Chair of Board of Governors
  • Designated Governor for Child Protection

The Southern Education and Library Board (the ‘Board’) was established as part of Local Government reorganisation in 1973 and is the largest of the five area Boards. The Board's principle functions are the provision of education and youth services to the District Council areas of Armagh, Banbridge, Cookstown, Craigavon, Dungannon & South Tyrone and Newry & Mourne. It spans 1,450 square miles with a total population of approximately 390,300 including 75,767 pupils.
