Primary Curriculum Partnership Programme

Monday 28 November 2011

The Primary Curriculum Partnership Programme for Primary Schools held its first training day with schools involved in Year 1 of the Programme on Friday 11th November at the Lough Neagh Discovery Centre.

The programme is funded by the International Fund for Ireland and managed by the Southern Education and Library Board. It aims to enhance the quality of delivery of Personal Development and Mutual Understanding (PDMU) in a range of cross community settings through the sharing of teacher expertise. It will provide a shared training and support structure for staff delivering the more challenging aspects of PDMU, including respect, similarities and differences, conflict, reconciliation and learning to live as members of a community. It will focus on whole school support for encouraging schools to share their delivery of the Northern Ireland Curriculum.

Principals and teachers enjoyed an interactive day with inputs form Dr Pete Shirlow, Director of Education, QUB and from David Gardiner and Alison Thompson the Project Manager in the SELB.
As one principal stated, “It was a great start to the programme, with thought provoking discussions from Dr Pete Shirlow and it was great to have the opportunity to share experiences and begin the process of working with other schools on these very important issues.”

An official launch of the Programme will take place later on in the school year.
