Staff of Rathore School, Newry have recently undertaken Certificated Makaton Foundation Training.
Makaton is a multi-modal language programme which uses signs, symbols and speech to support communication. Makaton is a ‘bridge to communication’ for many users and has developed in popularity through hit TV series ‘Something Special’ starring Mr. Tumble.
Ciara Quinn, Literacy Coordinator in Rathore School said, “It is hoped that through increasing the quality of communication partners for pupils in Rathore, the quality of language and learning will be enhanced”.
