| MARALIN PRIMARY TOP OF THE CLASS |
|
Maralin Village PS have been crowned Northern Ireland primary school hockey champions, completing a fantastic hat-trick of trophy triumphs this season.
It has been a memorable year for Maralin, from near Moira, who will now have no shortage of silverware to show off in their recently rebuilt school.
Having gone through the Mid-Ulster League season unbeaten, Maralin progressed to Ulster finals day at Lisnagarvey and proved the outstanding side in what was a festival of hockey, much to the delight of coaches Jill Jackson and Ruth Watt.
During the course of nine matches, Maralin scored a total of 16 goals without a single concession. In initial group games they beat Toreagh and Victoria Prep each by a 1-0 margin and then defeated Victoria from Carrick 2-0 before thrashing Dalriada 6-0 and rounding off with a 1-0 victory over Finaghy.
In the next round robin, Maralin drew with Spires and beat Antrim 2-0 to progress to the semi-final where they accounted for Windsor Hill 2-0 before beating opponents from the renowned hockey town of Cookstown 1-0 in the final. |
