Tasty Success for SELB School Meals Kitchens

The SELB School Meals Kitchens recently cleared the tables at a lavish ceremony in Belfast at the Northern Ireland School Caterers Association Awards.

In an unprecedented sweep of success, the SELB took the top prize in both the Primary and Post Primary categories. In addition, Mrs Miriam Lavery, recently retired from Lurgan JHS was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

SELB Catering Chief Doris Young, who described the success by Board staff at this year's Awards as 'extraordinary' said:

"This is the first time that one Board has taken three titles at the NISCA Awards and I am delighted that the excellence within the SELB school meals service has been recognised.

"The purpose of the NISCA Awards is to recognise the hard work, dedication and commitment of education catering staff in the provision of the valuable service they provide in schools.

"As SELB Catering Manager, I appreciate the support of the schools for their respective catering staff and nominating them for the NISCA Awards.

"A whole-school approach to the marketing and promotion of nutritional standards provided by the Board's catering service is essential if pupils are to be able to make informed and beneficial food and drink choices which will remain with them throughout life.

"This is the objective of all our dedicated staff and their greatest reward is to see their pupils choose and enjoy healthy food to enable them to be healthy children and eventually healthy adults" she concluded.
