PRISON! ME! NO WAY!
On Tuesday 13 th May 2008 the pupils of Key Stage 3 EOTAS took part in a Crime Day in St Paul’s Junior High School Lurgan. Approximately 50 St Paul’s pupils and 8 EOTAS pupils took part.
The event was organised by prison officers from HMP Maghaberry and was very challenging and entertaining for the young people. The young people were divided into groups (A Wing, B Wing, C Wing etc) and they took part in a series of workshops which were designed to give them insight into why people get involved in crime and what it is like to spend time in prison.

Workshops were facilitated by the Love for Life organisation, real life victims of crime and the prison officers themselves. The mother of a young person, who had stolen a car and crashed it killing him and two others, spoke about how this crime had affected her life. A DVD was shown of a young man who was knocked down by a stolen car and who is now permanently disabled and who feels that he has become a burden to his family.
Michelle Thompson (prison officer), who organised the event, praised the behaviour and manners of the EOTAS pupils, three of whom won awards for their hard work and enthusiasm throughout the event.
Everyone agreed that it was a great experience and Eotas pupils should be very proud of their magnificent contribution.
