SELB Chairman pays tribute to retired teachers
Teachers who retired at the end of the last school year have been hosted at a buffet reception in the Southern Education and Library Board (SELB) headquarters in Armagh.

A total of 25 teachers were welcomed by Mrs Moira Alexander, SELB Chairman, on behalf of the Board to the event on Thursday, February 24, 2005.

The teachers had worked in schools across the six districts of the SELB area and in the Board’s peripatetic teaching service. Each retired teacher was presented with a commemorative scroll.

Paying tribute to those attending, Mrs Alexander said: “On behalf of the Board I express my thanks for your many years of loyal service in the teaching profession.

“You have served through decades which have seen many changes in education, not least changes in teaching methods and developments of the curriculum. You have played your part in that process.

“I trust you can look back on your teaching career with a sense of pride at having given of your best for the young people placed in your care and with an appreciation of the privileged position which your profession afforded you in helping these young people grow and mature.

“I wish you many happy years of retirement and I hope that you will continue to take an interest in education.”
