| Admission arrangements for Pre-School places |
|
Is your child the age for a nursery or playgroup place in September 2005?
In the Southern Education and Library Board (SELB) area, there are approximately 4,500 free pre-school places available in nursery schools, nursery units in primary schools and in voluntary and private playgroups which are part of the pre-school education expansion plan.
|
| Information booklets for parents detail how many places are available in each setting as well as the admission criteria for each school or playgroup. The booklet also contains notes of guidance on completing the application form. A booklet is produced for each council area ( Armagh , Banbridge, Cookstown, Craigavon, Dungannon and South Tyrone, Newry and Mourne) within the SELB area and the one for your area is available from your local nursery or playgroup.

| Parents should complete a single form which lists, in order of preference, the pre-school centres they would consider sending their child to.
Free pre-school places are being targeted at children who are due to start Primary One in September 2006 (ie children who were born between July 2, 2001 , and July 1, 2002 .
Some younger children may also get a place.
Applications forms can be obtained from any pre-school centres or from local Health Centres and Branch Libraries.
Parents should complete the form, listing, in order of preference, the pre-school centres of their choice.
Parents are encouraged to list more than one school or playgroup as some nurseries and playgroups receive more applications than they have places.
The form should be returned to the pre-school setting selected as first preference by 12 noon on Wednesday January 26, 2005 .
Parents will be notified after Easter as to whether or not their child is being offered a funded pre-school place.
Both the information booklet and the application form may be requested from the Pre-School Helpline at the SELB (tel 028 3751 2520 or 028 3751 2526).
Information is also available on the SELB web site www.selb.org/pupilparent.
Staff at the Board will also be happy to deal with any queries.
E-mail enquires should be addressed to preschool.admissions@selb.org.
These arrangements do not apply to fee-paying places which are available in many voluntary and private playgroups and day nurseries. |
