| Outdoor play provides a wealth of challenging opportunities and is central to young children’s learning.
Speaking at the launch, Wendy McKeown said: “Outdoor provision is an essential part of the child’s daily environment and life. ‘Learning Outdoors’ is a bank of good ideas offering teachers the opportunity to think creatively about a play-based environment in the outdoors.
“Provision for learning outdoors is responsive to the needs of very active learners, those who need sensory or language stimulation and those who need space away from others – it makes provision more inclusive and is a vital learning environment.”
The inspiration for the resource came from good practice in settings across Northern Ireland , some within the SELB. At present the resource is being distributed free to schools within the SELB.
