Young people in interface areas to benefit from £60,000 scheme
Young people most affected by the Northern Ireland Troubles are set to benefit from a £60,000 scheme being run across the Southern Education and Library Board (SELB) area.
The SELB’s Youth Service is inviting registered youth organisations and bona fide voluntary or community groups working with young people to apply for support under the Youth Intervention Programme.
SELB rejects £7.2 million cuts

An SELB spokesperson said: “This is the third year that the Department of Education has made additional funding available to the Youth Service for this summer programme aimed at young people in interface areas and those areas most affected by the Troubles. Last summer 5,500 young people took part in a total of 84 schemes across the SELB area.

“The Youth Service was delighted with the uptake of the funding last year and although the funding has been reduced this year the focus will be to support the most needy groups in the interface areas.

“Proposed schemes must cater for young people within the 4 to 25 age range and should lead to their personal and social development. The main focus of the programmes should be timetabled in July and August.
“Organisations should forward completed applications by 17 June 2005 .
