| Naomi Long MLA representing the Alliance Party said in her address “community relations should be at the heart of everything we do, not separate to what we do”.
Also addressing the audience was Maurice Morrow MLA representing the DUP, Danny Kennedy MLA representing the UUP, Dominic Bradley MLA representing the SDLP and Davy Hyland MLA representing Sinn Fein.
The event, chaired by Niall Donnelly from Ulster Television, took the format of a Question and Answer session where the politicians were ably grilled by the audience.
David McCrory , Youth Worker for Community Relations with the SELB Community Relation Unit said: “I feel an event like this gives young people the opportunity to engage with and challenge local politicians. It is clear to all here tonight that many young people have a genuine interest in politics and have a real appetite for participation in democracy.”
Thanking all the political representatives who had appeared at the event David said: “It is good to see so many high-profile politicians keen to engage with young people.”
The event was to be followed by a performance and drama workshop in the Market Place Theatre by the Armagh Rhymers on March 9 for youth groups, continuing the celebration of Community Relations Week..
