Visitors get insight into SELB provision for pupils on autistic spectrum
The Southern Education and Library Board’s (SELB) Autism Advisory and Intervention Service has welcomed a delegation from the Saplings Model of Education in Kildare.
A spokesperson for the SELB said: “The Saplings Model of Education is prominent in the Republic of Ireland as a service which uses a predominantly Applied Behavioural Analysis ( ABA ) approach for working with children on the autistic spectrum.

“On Wednesday, March 23, the visitors from Kildare were welcomed to schools in the SELB area to look at Autism Specific provision.
“The group visited Lisanally School , Armagh , which caters for pupils with learning difficulties, including those on the autistic spectrum.
“In the afternoon, the Kildare visitors went to Edenderry Primary School , Portadown, where an Autism Specific Class was opened in January.
“The delegation’s interest in provision in the SELB area followed a visit to Saplings by the Southern Board’s Autism Advisory and Intervention Service and teachers .
“ The links with models of practice in the UK and the Republic are part of on-going development of autism services in the SELB area.”
