Project workers operate in various Health Trust areas across the Board’s six district council areas: Armagh and Dungannon Trust and Homefirst Trust (Cookstown area only); Craigavon & Banbridge Trust; Newry & Mourne Trust.
The event highlighted the range of support, both on an individual and group basis, available through the SAM project to assist young women to remain in education as well as to support them through the stages of becoming a parent for the first time.
Walter Burke, SELB Head of Educational Services, was among those who spoke at the information seminar.
Mr Burke said: “The SAM project offers an excellent opportunity for young women to continue with their education.
During the last academic year 2003/2004 the project supported 60 young women, 50% of whom are continuing their education at school with others having progressed to further and higher education.”
Those who work closely with the young women in education, health and community settings, were among those attending the event.
