SELB Schools Congratulated on Magazine Standards

Schools in the Southern Education and Library Board (SELB) area have been commended for the high standard of work in their magazines.
Doreen McBride, chairman of the SELB’s Education Committee, praised pupils and teachers when she welcomed winners and runners-up in the SELB School Magazine Competition 2004 to the Committee’s October meeting.


The competition is an annual event attracting entries from right across the Board’s area. Mrs McBride was among the competition judges who also included: Brendan McConville, SELB Education Officer – Nursery and Primary; Mairead Maguire, SELB Pupil and Parent Unit; local newspaper journalist Gillian McDade and Brendan O’Hara, SELB Communications Officer.

A prize of £50 was awarded to the winning school in each category with £20 for those in second place.
Mrs McBride said: "The standard of entries for this year's competition was extremely high, as in previous years. Choosing the winners was difficult for the judging panel.
"The magazine competition highlights the excellent work going on in schools and gives pupils the opportunity to display their writing and design skills."

Aisling Duffy and Aislin McCurry, pupils of St Catherine’s College, Armagh, and teacher Sheila McNulty, with 'College Chronicle' which won the Post-Primary (Desk Top Publishing) category in the SELB School Magazine Competition 2004. Also pictured are Doreen McBride, chairman of the SELB Education Committee, who welcomed the winners and runners-up in the competition to Board Headquarters in Armagh, and SELB chairman Moira Alexander.
