Young people’s opportunity for artistic expression
Young people are being encouraged to unlock their artistic potential through a scheme being facilitated across the Southern Education and Library Board (SELB) area. Creative Youth Partnerships (CYP) is an exciting arts initiative aimed at creating, developing and sustaining arts programmes for children and young people throughout Northern Ireland.
Each education and library board has engaged a CYP development officer to facilitate arts programmes and initiate creative partnerships within its area. Fionnuala Walsh, who outlined the purpose of the partnerships, is taking the project forward in the SELB area.
“The main aim of Creative Youth Partnerships is to ensure that as many children and young people as possible have the opportunity to participate in programmes of creative arts activities, in contexts of their own choosing, and across all art forms,” said Fionnuala.

“Creative Youth Partnerships will provide opportunities for children and young people to participate in the arts within the formal education sector, the non-formal sector and in the context of community and voluntary groups and organisations.
“The CYP programme is now on-line, providing a database of arts projects and activities for youth organisations to access. Youth organisations, schools and colleges can select individual artists and professional arts organisations to deliver a combination of pre-prepared and individually-tailored arts activities.” The Arts Council of Northern Ireland, education and library boards, the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure and the Department of Education, have developed the Creative Youth Partnerships project.
Those who would like to know more about the project, or who want to include their group or school in its programme of arts activities, can visit the CYP website at www.cypni.org.
