SELB invests in new brake roller tester system
An investment in a brake tester system by the Southern Education and Library Board will help efforts to make travelling as safe as possible for pupils, the Board's Transport Officer has said.
Dennis Flannigan was commenting on the SELB's investment in a new Rolling Road Brake Tester operating at the Board's Woodford Vehicle Maintenance Depot in Armagh.
Although the facility is in Armagh it will be used for SELB vehicles from across the six district council areas covered by the Board.
As well as testing vehicles providing SELB services such as school transport and libraries, schools with private buses will also be able to avail of the facility.

Dennis Flannigan, SELB Transport Officer, said: "The Brake Roller Tester, Model IW7 Eurosystem is identical to the equipment in Government Test Centres.
"The Vehicle Maintenance Depot in Armagh can now ensure that all vehicles in the Board’s fleet including vans, trucks and buses, meet the new stringent test procedures. This reduces the possibility of vehicles having to be presented for re-testing at Test Centres, and having to be taken out of service for a second time.
"This system is computerised, with a fully automatic test procedure, with on screen data evaluation. This data can be printed and retained with the vehicle records.
"Along with the brake test the Vehicle Maintenance service can also carry out diesel smoke tests, thus ensuring the Board’s fleet comply with the latest EU regulations on gas emissions.
"The Board also carries out repairs to school owned minibuses; therefore these buses would automatically be tested on this system."
Schools which would like to find out more about the service can contact Stephen Coard, General Manager, Vehicle Maintenance, on 02837 520790.
