Dennis Flannigan, SELB Transport Officer, said: "The Brake Roller Tester, Model IW7 Eurosystem is identical to the equipment in Government Test Centres.
"The Vehicle Maintenance Depot in Armagh can now ensure that all vehicles in the Board’s fleet including vans, trucks and buses, meet the new stringent
test procedures. This reduces the possibility of vehicles having to be presented for re-testing at Test Centres, and having to be taken out of service
for a second time.
"This system is computerised, with a fully automatic test procedure, with on screen data evaluation. This data can be printed and retained with the
vehicle records.
"Along with the brake test the Vehicle Maintenance service can also carry out diesel smoke tests, thus ensuring the Board’s fleet comply with the
latest EU regulations on gas emissions.
"The Board also carries out repairs to school owned minibuses; therefore these buses would automatically be tested on this system."
Schools which would like to find out more about the service can contact Stephen Coard, General Manager, Vehicle Maintenance, on 02837 520790.
