The Metal Box Project Portadown
The Southern Education & Library Board's Library Promotion & Marketing Co-ordinator Gerry Burns, working in partnership with Fergal O'Brien of the Craigavon & Banbridge Health Trust, has devised the 'Metal Box Project'.
It tells the story of the history of the Metal Box factory in Portadown, which closed in the 1980s and the people who worked there. The Project concluded on Friday 18th October, with the launch in the Millennium Court Arts Centre in Portadown of 'The Tin God', a book written by the Belfast poet Adrian Rice, which wonderfully details the life of the factory and its employees.

The Project provides solid evidence of the willingness of the Library Service to engage, wherever possible, with the local community, supporting the efforts of local people and helping to produce, as in this case, something that will be of benefit to the wider community. .
