SELB response to press release issued by SDLP MLA John Fee on "Children put at risk by education board".
Mrs Helen McClenaghan, SELB Chief Executive, in response to Mr Fee's remarks, stressed that the safety of children as they make their way to and from school was paramount.
She explained that the Board's officers are currently reviewing the provision of concessionary seats where pupils are not entitled to transport but are allowed a seat because the bus has vacant seats, in an area of County Armagh where the request for more concessionary seats is being made by parents.

Parents whose children at present enjoy concessionary seats have been told of the review: Mrs McClenaghan explained that the matter would be brought to the Board if the review indicated its existing provision in the area needed to be changed. "There is absolutely no question of what Mr Fee has described as an immediate withdrawal of school transport," she affirmed. "Mr Fee has met one of my colleagues recently and, as his press statement confirms, Mr Fee and Mr Kennedy, Chairman of the Assembly's Education Committee and I have arranged to meet next week to discuss the review in more detail".
