describes the logo, as representing the Board and all its
customers, “When the SELB made it known they required a new
corporate identity logo, I thought it was a great opportunity
to put my graphic design skills in to practical operation.
The logo comes from the idea of people and care for
people. The round
dot represents the Board’s customers (students, teachers,
and staff to name a few) and the arm is the SELB - reinforcing
the caring nature. The logo itself has an upward and outward movement,
to signify looking forward and moving in to the future.”
To assist with the official launch, the SELB invited P3 school
children from St Patrick’s and
Armstrong primary schools in Armagh to help with the
celebrations. The
children joined in by having their faces painted with the
new logo and getting involved in a 500 Balloon Release.
Each child, having written their name on a balloon,
watched it being released in to the air.
SELB Chairman, Betty McClurg on releasing the balloons said,
“It really is an exceptional day in the Board’s calendar.
I am proud to launch the new corporate logo and plan
and am delighted to see our new vehicles on the road for the
first time. Also receiving
the cheque from the New Opportunities Fund will provide much
needed summer school assistance for children and young people
in the area. I am most pleased to have been part of today’s
celebrations and was so glad some local children could participate
and have some fun!”
The New Opportunities Fund (NOF) presented a cheque for £224,000
to the Southern Education & Library Board on 1 May 2001.
It was presented at the official launch. Joanne McDowell, Senior Policy & Development Officer presented
the cheque to Mrs McClurg, Chairman of the Board. The cheque is for a 3-year project involving
provision for summer schemes in the Board area and will assist
approximately 3000 children and young people in total.
Who will benefit? – 32 schools (23 primary schools, 4 secondary
and 5 special schools). Also 17 Youth groups and 12 Library summer schemes involving use
of ICT.
The Board has taken receipt of new vehicles, including a new
mobile library unit, new music van, buses for school transport
and grounds maintenance vehicles.
