Primary School, Loughbrickland welcomed Paul Clarke
(UTV presenter) for the official opening of the school
on Friday, 1 June 2001.
The occasion was a day of celebration, joining
pupils, parents, current staff, staff from the amalgamated
schools, Board of Governors and former chairman Rev.
John Noble together to assist with the official opening
and tree planting on this historic day.
The pupils had come up with a fun filled package
for visiting guests including a range of gymnastics,
poems and music to entertain and delight. |
| The
students attending Bronte come from a broad catchment
area, as the school was built to replace Croreagh, Edendale
and Glaskermore Primary Schools.
Even though pupils travel from areas such as
Banbridge and Newry, the school has already built up
a real community spirit.
The new school, costing £815,254 comprises 5
classrooms, 2 resource areas, a multi-purpose hall and
offices to accommodate the 136 students in attendance. |

| Work
on the building began in September 1998; it was a 12-month
project with the Southern Education & Library Board taking
possession on 27 September 1999. The first pupils went through the doors of Bronte on 5 January 2000.
Mrs Davidson, principal of Bronte said, “I am delighted
to be officially opening the school and proud to have such
guests along to join in with the celebrations. The school will be a real asset to the local community and has already
proved to be a winner with the children. Today gives us the opportunity to say thank you to those involved
from the beginning and display our wonderful new school to
parents and pupils alike.” |
