SELB Orchestra hits a high note in Dublin
Over 150 young musicians from the SELB area travel to Dublin this weekend to take part in a major cross border youth concert entitled “The Common Ground – Music Across the Border”. The theme of the concert is breaking down barriers and building bridges.
The concert, due to take place in the Helix Concert Hall Dublin, represents the official launch of a new 2-year project, which will link the South Ulster Youth Orchestra and Band with the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland. The South Ulster Youth Orchestra and Band are two senior groups of the Southern Board’s Music Service.

SELB Head of Music Services, Eithne Benson is enthusiastic about the benefits of such a project, she commented, “The cross border orchestra project presents a new and exciting opportunity for us to perform with other musicians and to extend our contact outside Northern Ireland. We have had a very enjoyable time preparing for this concert and look forward to further collaboration in the future. The 2 year programme will include rehearsals and performances on both sides of the border and we hope to perform at the Waterfront Hall, Belfast next year.”

The project is supported by the EU Programme for Peace and Reconciliation, administered by Co-operation Ireland.
