Topping, chief executive of the North Eastern Education and
Library Board and chair of the conference’s organising
committee, launching the conference today [Friday 20 June]
at the Waterfront Hall said:
“The five boards are proud to be hosting the conference
in 2004. Each year the conference discusses a range of topical
educational themes with addresses from high profile national
and international keynote speakers. The conference has been
used by successive Secretaries of State to make significant
policy announcements and has therefore always been a high
profile event. Already we have organised a number of speakers
and seminars that promise to make the 2004 conference an exciting
and memorable event.”
Dominic McElholme, president of the Association of Northern
Ireland Education and Library Boards said:
“The North of England Education Conference is recognised
as the largest and most prestigious conference of its kind
in the British Isles, and it is a significant coup to bring
the conference across the Irish Sea for the first time. We
are delighted that a number of high-profile speakers will
at the event and that Professor Tim Brighouse, Commissioner
for London Schools, has agreed to be the conference’s
president.”
The conference is being hosted in association with Sx3 Ireland,
whose managing director Noel Brady, said:
“A high calibre event such as this will provide a forum
for experts from across the UK to explore the most topical
issues facing education today. In a pluralist society, the
links between business and education are of great significance
and through our involvement in projects such as the C2K initiative,
Sx3 hopes to introduce a dimension which will benefit all
those who attend in January.”
The conference is being held on 7-9 January. To keep up to
