Welcome to the Education Authority

At midnight on 31 March 2015, the Southern Education and Library Board ceased to exist. The Education Authority (EA) became operational on 01 April 2015 and has taken over the duties and responsibilities of all five Education and Library Boards as a new, single organisation.

A large scale change programme is currently being implemented to manage the transition, over a number of years, from five organisations to one with responsibility for delivery of education services.

In the short term, there will be no change to the delivery of services. Five sub-regions which reflect the geographic areas covered by the ELBs will continue to exist so you will continue to access our services as before as the Southern region of the new Education Authority.

Visit the Education Authority website at www.eani.org.uk for further information.

The Southern Education and Library Board (the ‘Board’) was established as part of Local Government reorganisation in 1973 and is the largest of the five area Boards. The Board's principle functions are the provision of education and youth services to the District Council areas of Armagh, Banbridge, Cookstown, Craigavon, Dungannon & South Tyrone and Newry & Mourne. It spans 1,450 square miles with a total population of approximately 390,300 including 75,767 pupils.
