Leadership Scale Points – L7 – L13

Essential Criteria

1.  Be a recognised teacher eligible to teach in a Primary School in Northern Ireland and be registered or have, if successful, registered with the GTCNI by the agreed date of taking up duty.

2. Have a minimum of 5 years* full-time equivalent teaching experience in a primary school(s) within the last 10 years* by 31 August 2007.

3. Have a minimum of 2 years* experience within the past 6 years* as at 31 August 2007 of leading school/curricular development in primary school(s) in the role of Principal, Vice Principal, Head of Key Stage or Co-Ordinator.

4. Have an understanding of budget management under the LMS Scheme.

5. The Board of Governors recognise the value of the National Standards for Headteachers and will expect candidates to be familiar with these.

6. Be able to demonstrate that he/she possesses good communication, leadership management and ICT skills and can meet the pastoral care needs of the children and staff and is committed to working in partnership with staff, Governors and Parents to promote the school in the community.

Desirable Criterion

1. For applicants not currently in the role of Principal or Vice Principal it is desirable that those applicants possess the Professional Qualification for Headship or be in the process of obtaining same.

Where a number of years experience is required, this means full school years (September to August).

The symbol * indicates a minimum requirement which is subject to enhancement to facilitate a manageable shortlist of candidates for interview.

NB: Shortlisted applicants will be required to make a short presentation.
