The Board of Governors of Banbridge Academy invites applications for the post of Vice Principal. The Board is seeking to appoint a person with energy and vision who has a proven record of successful pastoral, organisational and management experience and who is committed to maintaining high standards of teaching and learning. Banbridge Academy encourages all its pupils to strive for high academic standards and achievements by providing a disciplined, caring and supportive learning environment.

Essential Criteria

The successful applicant must:

•  Be a qualified teacher recognised by the Department of Education and registered with the GTCNI or have registered before taking up appointment;

•  Have at least 7 years * full-time equivalent post-primary teaching experience at GCSE and ‘A' Level of which a minimum of 3 years must have been at ‘A' level; and

•  Have significant experience in administration, organisation and management in a school either at senior or middle management level, for example as Head of Department, Head of Year or in a post with whole school responsibility. Significant experience is defined as having held a post with a minimum of 3 teaching allowances * for 3 years out of the last 6 in a school offering a wide range of GCSE and ‘A' Level courses.

The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate effectively that he/she:

•  Has high quality leadership and interpersonal skills;

•  Is a successful teacher, competent in ICT in its application to teaching, learning and information management;

•  Has successful organisational and management skills;

•  Has a thorough understanding of current educational issues.

Desirable Criteria

It is desirable that applicants can provide details of relevant and on-going professional development to show updated skills and strategic management awareness (eg a postgraduate qualification in Education or PQH).

NB: Where a number of years experience is required, this means full school years (September to August) and may include the current school year 2007 – 2008.

The symbol * indicates a minimum requirement which is subject to enhancement to facilitate a manageable shortlist of candidates for interview.

 NB: Shortlisted applicants will be required to make a short presentation.
