What
is the children order team ?
- The
Children Order has been described as representing
the most comprehensive and far reaching reform
of Child Law in living memory.
- The
Order came into effect in November 1996. There
are 5 main principles within the Order.
- The
welfare of the child is Paramount.
- Parental
Responsibility
- Partnership
- Prevention
- Protection
- The
Order radically alters the way that legal
decisions are made about children, the welfare
of the child being the Court's main consideration.
It supports the view that it is best for children
to be brought up within their own families
and changes the balance between parental care
and state intervention. There is a move away
from over-intrusiveness into family life and
bureaucratic child protection towards more
preventative strategies through the provision
of a wide range of family support services
for children, particularly the most vulnerable.
The Order also gives children the formal right
to express their own views when decisions
are being made about any aspects of their
lives.
