Personal Development is relatively new approach
to working with children and young people in school.
It gives pupils an opportunity to examine their
attitudes, feelings and behaviour outside of the
normal classroom setting. Group work is aimed
at improving pupil's attitudes towards school
and their relationship with teachers. and peers.
|
Within the 'Safety' of the
group pupils can explore the values and beliefs
which affect their behaviour. This can give them
an insight into why they behave in a certain way
and can lead to them considering alternative approaches
to deal with situations.
|
Group work is a process,
which takes time and effort and a supportive environment
within the school. Through a programme of games,
exercises and activities, pupils' self-awareness
and self-esteem can be raised allowing them to
develop more meaningful and effective relationships
with teachers and peers.
|
The Children Order Team can
offer flexible programmes to improve pupil's communication
skills, self-esteem and ability to deal with conflict.
Programmes can be targeted at pupils presenting
problems in school or those who are poorly motivated
