The Action Group has responsibility for the production of an annual programme of library events and for an integrated approach to Promotion & Reader Development across all services.

NOVEMBER |
‘E-Week’,
a series of events highlighting ICT in SELB Libraries
e.g. genealogy on the Internet, webpage design,
digital photography, travel on the web, how to
get the best from your PC, introduction to adaptive
technology, e-mail made easy etc. |

DECEMBER |
Christmas Special story-times, displays, competitions
in a number of branches.BBC’s ‘The
Big Read’: results of the final poll for
the number one favourite book in Britain is announced.
As many branches as possible will be involved
in displaying relevant material etc. |

JANUARY |
Health & fitness promotion – all branches
have suitable stock for table-top displays. By
contacting the various health-promotion agencies
it may be possible to put on one or more larger
displays on a health-related theme. |

FEBRUARY |
Valentine’s
Day Special story-times, small displays, competitions
in a number of branches.

World

John
Graham is the Training Librarian and is responsible for all
in-service training for the Southern Board’s Library
Service. John is also responsible for the staff library.
Helen
Grimes is the Display Officer and provides a range of graphic
design services such as posters, notices, exhibitions and
other publicity material for the branch libraries, Education
Services and various other sections within the Library Service.
The
staffing in this section, Heather Brown, Elaine Meaklim and
Keavy McGhee provide administration and secretarial support
within the Library Service. This includes the preparation
of accounts for payment, collecting and compiling statistics,
processing internal and external mail and a whole lot more!
The staff also manage the switchboard and reception area in
Library Headquarters.
